What is Tech Neck?
In recent years, technology has become an integral part of our lives. We use our smartphones, laptops, and other electronic devices for hours every day, often with poor posture. This has not only led to excessive screen time but also to a phenomenon called "Tech Neck."
"Tech Neck" is a term used to describe the pain and discomfort caused by the excessive forward tilt of the head and rounded shoulders when looking down at our devices. It is a modern epidemic affecting millions of people worldwide.
The human head weighs an average of 5 to 7 kilograms. When we tilt our heads forward to look at our screens, the weight of the head increases and puts significant pressure on the neck, shoulders, and back. This leads to pain, discomfort, and even long-term damage to our spine and posture.
In addition to neck and back pain, Tech Neck can also cause headaches, fatigue, and even eye strain. It can even lead to more serious issues like herniated discs, spinal stenosis, and arthritis.
So, what can we do to prevent Tech Neck?
As simple as it may sound, paying attention to the correct posture has a huge impact on preventing Tech Neck. Therefore: keep your back straight, relax your shoulders, and align your neck with your spine. Proper ergonomics, especially at your workstation, also play a key role.
